DNS Monitoring in smoxy

DNS monitoring in smoxy allows you to check the reachability of specific DNS targets directly within the interface. This helps you detect basic availability issues with your services at an early stage.

What is DNS Monitoring?

As soon as you create DNS records in smoxy, the platform automatically attempts to reach the target address of the record and shows you whether the connection was successful or not. This feature helps you determine whether your records are working correctly or may be misconfigured.

What does smoxy monitor?

smoxy regularly checks whether a DNS record is reachable – for example, whether a server responds at the specified IP address. The status is displayed directly in the DNS overview next to the records.

Test Frequency

DNS monitoring checks run at a fixed interval of 30 seconds per IP address. This interval cannot currently be changed.

For each check, three queries are sent in parallel from different regions worldwide:

  • If at least one region responds successfully, the record is considered online.

  • If all three queries fail, the record is marked as offline.

Where is the status displayed?

When you open a domain in smoxy and switch to the DNS Records tab, you’ll see a color-coded status next to certain records, for example:

  • 🟢 Reachable

  • 🔴 Not reachable

This display is based on the last successful or failed check by smoxy.

Are there notifications?

No. smoxy only displays the monitoring status in the interface. There are no automatic notifications, no history of checks, and no escalation mechanisms. Monitoring is solely intended as a visual aid in DNS management.

Additional Notes

  • Monitoring results can be influenced by local network restrictions or firewalls.

  • smoxy only checks for basic reachability – it does not perform a full service check (e.g., HTTP status or port scan).

  • A “not reachable” status does not necessarily mean that the service is offline, only that smoxy did not receive a successful response.
